Day 26 Holiday Challenge

Yesterday I was having trouble getting the post to publish...

Out of sight, out of mind

Today's hint: get rid of the "problem foods"

If you have a food that you know you would binge or overeat on, the easiest way to keep on the bandwagon this Holiday Season is to simply eliminate it from your diet. This can be hard, especially if it's still present in your house. The dramatic weight loss shows show the participants throwing out all the junk food in the house. You may, however, have other people in the house that like those foods. The best thing to do is have a conversation with them if this is the case. Would an alcoholic in recovery keep alcohol in the house? Absolutely not. Should you keep those problem foods in the house? Maybe you can part from them.

At the very least, you can change the environment. Maybe place those foods where you won't see them. If it's out of sight, it'll likely be out of your mind.

At those parties, sit yourself away from the food table. Keep food where food is normally eaten, that means get rid of it in your living room or private bedroom.

It would be a good practice to search for the calorie content of your problem foods. You may be shocked at the changes you have to make in your diet just to eat one or two of them. Write down a list and keep that in sight for a bit, it might help you make the right decision when you next see that Holiday favorite.

  1. Another helpful thing to remember besides out of sight, out of mind, for those that do the grocery shopping for their households: "If you don't buy it, you will not try it".
